Bride Guide April 07 2016, 2 Comments

The time between the engagement and wedding is filled with some of the most fun events of a girl's life.  However, with all these events comes the stress of trying to find the perfect outfit to wear to each one.

Don't fear...we have you covered from your engagement party to your honeymoon!

Engagement Party- You need a classy dress that is on the formal side. Try our Pop the Champagne Dress.  The neutral color and high neck makes this a super classy look.

Bridal Shower- A simple white dress is great for your shower.  You need something easy to sit around in while you eat, play games, and open gifts.  Try our Laced With Grace Dress.  It is white, has lace, and a comfortable material.

Bachelorette Party- Your bachelorette party is all about you, so you need to make sure you stand out. A fun, bright color is sure to do the trick.  Try our A Thing Called Love Dress.  It is bright pink and flowy enough to allow you bust a move on the dance floor with your squad.

Rehearsal Dinner- A white dress is a must have for the bride for the rehearsal dinner.  The night is all about practicing for the big day, so you need something to ensure you look like a bride.  Try our Tie The Knot Dress.  It is elegant, white, and works for any setting including indoors, outdoors, and churches.

Honeymoon- When your wedding is over it is time to relax and celebrate! Your tropical vacation calls for a fun maxi.  Try our Island Fever Dress.  It is light weight for hot beach weather and this print gives off an island vibe.

Back Talk March 04 2016, 0 Comments

One of our favorite trends of the moment is fun back detailing.  We have multiple items in stock right now showing this fun trend.

Why we love a fun back for spring:

1. It's unexpected- These details add a pop of surprise to your outfit and no one will see it coming! "Business in the front, party in the back", am I right?

2. It's warming up- Finally warm weather is on the way making it comfortable to expose some skin without freezing!

3. Modest way of showing skin- The open back detailing allows more modest girls a way to show off without exposing everything! This details are flirty without being sleezy!

Our favorite back details:

Sorority Recruitment Outfit Guide July 19 2015, 0 Comments

You're moving away from your parents, worried about fitting everything you need into a tiny dorm room, and stressed about making your first semester class schedule.  The last thing you need to do is add on to your anxiety about what to wear during the sorority recruitment process. With so many rounds and events it can be confusing for girls to know what exactly to wear during recruitment. So, we have put together a simple guide with everything you need from round one all the way to Bid Day!

Round 1: Open House

You will be doing a meet and greet with members from each sorority. For this first round, wear a fun printed or bright colored sun dress.  This is your first chance to make an impression. You want to stand out, but still look classy.

Model Behavior Dress

Round 2: Philanthropy Day

You will be listening to each sorority talk about the charities and non profit organizations they help fundraise for and represent. A romper is a great way to show your personal style during this round while still looking presentable and respectful.

Heatwave Romper

Round 3: House Tours

Wear a nice and modest dress for this round and remember you are a guest in these homes. Be sure to wear comfortable sandals. You will be doing alot of standing and walking while touring the houses.

Lasting Impression Dress

Round 4: Pref Night

This is the most formal and important round of recruitment. It is your last chance to make an impression. Wear a nice dress and a pair of heels you can walk in. Also, break out the jewels during this round. Try a simple statement necklace to add something extra while still keeping a clean look.

Pref Night Dress

Bid Day

Its time to relax and celebrate! Wear a simple tank and a playful pair of light weight pants or shorts. Once you receive your bid you will get a t-shirt from your new sorority sisters to wear.

The Good Life Pants

Good luck and remember to have a great time while being true to yourself! Happy Recruitment!

The Single Girl's Guide to Valentine's Day February 11 2015, 0 Comments

It's no secret that the mushiest holiday of them all is coming up this weekend. February 14th is either your favorite or most hated day of the year depending on your relationship status.

All of the girls with dates are all like:

While the single girls are all like:

But, who says it has to be this way? Just because you're single doesn't mean your Valentine's Day has to be terrible and spent wallowing in self pity.  There are plenty of activities for single girls to partake in, so we have put together a list of 6 ways to ensure you have the best V-Day ever!

Spend the night with your celebrity crush. Time to hit up Netflix and Redbox. Whether you're in love with Leo, Johnny, Jake, or Ryan you can spend your night devoted to them. Get food delivered and get your TV ready.  Watch them in their best roles and fall in love with them all over again.

Volunteer for a few hours. Spread some love by taking time to do a selfless act.  There are tons of places who always need volunteers like the humane society, Boy's and Girl's Clubs, and homeless shelters. You will be helping people who really need it and you will definitely feel great about yourself afterwards.

Have a fiesta. Gather all of your single girlfriends and head over to your favorite Mexican restaurant. These usually aren't the most romantic restaurants so you'll be sure to avoid all the googly-eyed love birds going out to dinner. Fill up on tacos and chips and enjoy a fun night with your best gals.  Oh, and don't forget about the margaritas!

Pamper yourself. It's time to put yourself first. Make an appointment for a massage or ask your girlfriend to join you for a relaxing mani/pedi. You deserve it!

Go shopping. Haven't you heard of retail therapy? It works! There's nothing a new blouse or shoes can't fix. Buy yourself an outfit (or two) that you know you will look great in and make plans to show it off.

Start a secret admirer game with your friends. Gather the names of all of your single girls and let everyone draw.  Get a small gift for the friend you drew and meet up for a fun GNO to exchange presents.  This way everyone gets a gift and your not spending your night alone.

Happy Day of Love!

OOTD- Navy Dress and Cardigan January 26 2015, 0 Comments

Just in the past week we have experienced weather in the 60's one day and down in the 30's just a few days later. With this ever-changing weather, layering pieces are a girl's best friend!

In today's Outfit of the Day, we centered the look around our navy items. Our My Kind of Night Dress is one of our favorites of the season. It is so versatile and easy to dress up or down. To add some print and warmth on these colder winter days, we layered our Cold Snap Cardigan on top. The length of the cardigan is great for this dress, because it hits right above the hem to allow a little of the dress to be exposed in the back, but still provides warmth and coverage. To finish off the look we added our new, navy ombre Under the Moonlight Necklace

The best part? You can get this whole look for under $100!

Cold Snap Cardigan $40

Under the Moonlight Necklace $18

Motivational Printables for the New Year January 05 2015, 0 Comments

A new year brings a hope of change and a list of resolutions. We have put together our resolutions for the upcoming year and we hope they inspire you.  Each resolution comes with a free printable as well.  Save them as your wallpapers, print them out, or pin them to keep them fresh on your mind and motivate you to be the best you in 2015!

1. Stop Wishing, Start Doing.  Take a trip, start a blog, move to a different city, buy the shoes.  Do all the things you have been putting off and saying you will one day do. There is no time like the present, so live it up!

2. Look Up More.  Take time to reflect and give thanks for all things in your life. Blessings surround you!

3. I Will Not Compare Myself to Strangers On The Internet. Maybe she's born with it, but maybe it's an Instagram filter. Stop stalking your ex's new girlfriend or the girl with a million likes on her latest selfie. Concentrate on yourself, because being jealous doesn't make you any prettier!

Here's to a new and happy year! Let's do this!

Fox Make Up Tutorial for Halloween October 29 2014, 0 Comments

Halloween is only hours away! Are you still scrambling for an easy costume to wear? Stop stressing and follow this tutorial to be the foxiest lady at the halloween party! This costume only requires a few pieces of make up, simple and neutral clothing, and ears made from construction paper. You can throw this one together in under 20 minutes!

For the clothes, we paired our Sunday Afternoon top with a pair of dark brown leggings. (ps. the most comfortable shirt ever!) Over the leggings we kept with the neutral colors and paired our dark brown, Walk the Walk Boots.

For the head band we cut out two sets of ears out of peachy colored paper and glued white pieces on the center. Then we took a sharpie and colored black on the tips to resemble fur.

Now on the to the make up:

1. On a clean face, apply a thin layer of your normal foundation to create a base layer.

2. Take a white eye pencil (we used NYX jumbo eye pencil in milk) and make multiple streaks on the bottom half of your face including your lips.

3. Take a make up brush and blend the steaks together to fill in the gaps and create a smooth white bottom half of your face.

4. Blend the white down the center of your neck.

5. Use a dark brown powder and blend it in with a brush on the top half of your face including your cheek bones, nose, and forehead. Make an emphasis around the bottom of your cheek bones to create a dramatic separation between the brown and white. We used the 6 Color Palette from bhcosmetics (ah-mazing palette for contouring and it's at a great price) but any dark foundation or powder will work!

6. Over your dark brown section, blend in an orange tinted eye shadow with a large brush to give a more realistic fox look. We used the Wet n Wild Fergie Photo Op Eyeshadow in Desert Festival.

7. From the same Wet n Wild eyeshadow set, we used the center dark brown to define the nose.  With a small eyeshadow brush, create a line down each side of the nose starting from the edge of the eyebrows down to your nostril.

8. We used this same color to create a smokey eye. With the same brush apply the dark brown eyeshadow on each eyelid.

9. Take an eye liner pen (we used NYX Two Timer Pencil in jet black) and create a line out from the inner corner of each eye, up into the crease.

10. Take the same liner and fill in the bottom of your nose, all the way around each nostril. Then, create a line from your nose to lip. Line your top lip and extend it out a little on each side.

11. Take the white eye pencil and line your inner lower eye lids.

12. With the fine end of your eye liner, create small spots between your lips and nose. About 4-5 on each side works best.

13. Apply mascara to upper and lower lashes. We used Urban Decay's Perversion mascara.

 14. Blend in the dark powder down the sides of your neck to blend the entire look together.

Sorority Rush Outfits August 03 2014, 1 Comment

What you wear during rush week is very important.  You want to make sure you are dressed appropriately for each part of the recruitment process.  It is also crucial that you are comfortable so you are focused on each round and not worried about your outfit. So, we have put together an outfit for each round of rush from Open House to Pref Night!

Open House: This is the most casual round of the rush process.  Here you will be visiting with every sorority on campus and talking with tons of girls.  This outfit should be fun and show your personality, but should also be comfortable and keep you cool, as you will spend a lot of time outside and walking. Try wearing a fun dressy top with textured shorts.

The One Who Got Away Top $35

Flower Child Shorts $36

Philanthropy Day: You will still visit with a large amount of sororities during this round, but not as many during Open House. During this round, the sororities will share with you the organizations they support and raise money for. You want to be a little dressier this round, but still comfortable.  Try pairing a fun, modest sundress with dressy sandals.

Cook Out Cutie Dress $37

House Tours: During this round you will take tours of a few of the sorority's houses that you are interested in and will continue to talk with their members.  You need to be a little dressy this round, but not formal.  Try wearing a polished dress, a fun statement necklace, and comfortable wedges.

Strawberry Shortcake Dress $40

Navy Sealed with a Kiss Necklace $22

Pref Night: This is the most formal night of rush.  You will visit with your top choices and narrow down which sorority you would prefer to join.  Try wearing a classic black dress with heels and add a pair of bright earrings for a pop of color.

Caged In Dress $36

Electric Feel Earrings $16

DIY Tassel Garland July 25 2014, 0 Comments

Since our launch party last month, our email has been flooded with questions from you all asking where we got the tassel garland in our party pictures.  While there are tons of places to purchase similar ones, like party supply stores and numerous Etsy accounts, we decided to try to make it on our own. It turned out great and was way less than purchasing a premade garland.

We put together a little tutorial as well, so you all can make one too!

Supplies Needed:

  • Tissue paper
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue gun
  • String or rope

Step 1:

  • Take one sheet of tissue paper and fold it all the way in half, horizontally. This one sheet will end up making four separate tassels

Step 2: Fold the tissue paper in half vertically two times.

Step 3: Take scissors and cut small strips from the bottom of the folded tissue up, leaving about one inch of uncut space.

Step 4: Unfold the tissue vertically one time and make one cut right down the middle to make two separate pieces.

Step 4: Take one of the two sections and unfold it completely. Cut this piece in half, horizontally, to create two separate pieces.

Step 5: Take one of these pieces and gently roll it up from edge to edge so the cut strips are on each side.  You will have to occasionally run your fingers lightly through the cut edges to keep them from tangling.

Step 6: Once it is rolled up, twist the uncut center tightly.

Step 7: Take the twisted center and bend it to create a loop. Place a drop of hot glue to hold the loop together.

Step 8: Once the glue has dried completely your tassel is complete! Take the other three left over sections and repeat steps 4-8. Then, you can put your rope or string through the loops of your tassels and hang it.

If you make a tassel garland tag us in your pics! We would love to see what yours looks like!

DIY Monogrammed Cuff June 29 2014, 0 Comments

For those who are obsessed with monograms, gold, or tortoise shell...this DIY project is calling your name! This is a fun, little, easy project that only requires a few minutes and couple supplies.  Our Raising Shell Cuff is darling just as it is, but this gives it just a little something extra!

The first step is to purchase a vinyl monogram set custom to your initials.  Our favorite is the three-letter monogram in an interlocking font, but you can customize it to suite your style! To fit on our Raising Shell Cuff, you need to make sure the monogram measures less than 1" in size.  We suggest purchasing the .77'' vinyl decal from Etsy shop Decal Monograms.  For only $4.75 you will get a set of three, which is great for if you happen to make a mistake while applying or just to have two extras!

Once you have your monogram decal and the cuff you are ready to complete the project.  Take the decal and peel off the backing.  Line the middle of your monogram with the middle of the cuff, apply the decal, and remove the covering.

Yes, It's that easy!

If you try this project, send us your pictures! We love to see your photos!

OOTD- Kimono June 16 2014, 0 Comments

Today's outfit of the day features one of our favorite trends of the season, the kimono. Influenced by Japanese fashion, the kimono is a combination of a shawl and a loose open sleeve cardigan.

Our newest kimono, Down To Earth, is a great piece for your closet.  It's ivory color makes it so versatile.  You can pair it with shorts, pants, or dresses.  It has such a feminine look with its lace design and we're obsessed with its fringed hem. With the kimono we paired our favorite booties to finish off the look.

2014 Spring Trends- Closet Essentials May 19 2014, 0 Comments

Are you tired of cold winter weather and piling on tons of layers? Us too! We recently got back from a market trip to buy our spring collection and we could not be more excited!

Before our first spring items arrive, we want all of our customers to know just what you need in your closet this season.  After reading up on fashion magazines, studying runway collections, and talking with designers at market, we were able to create a list with the top ten must have items and trends for this spring!

Closet essentials for spring:

1. Pastels- From minty green to soft lavender, no light hues are off limit

2. Wide Leg Trousers- These super chic pants will lengthen your frame and are easy to wear

3. Crop Tops- Show off your mid drift or pair with high waisted bottoms for a more modest look

4. Embellished Details- Jewels, hardware, feathers and more will give your items extra flare

5. Contrasting Collars- Give your work outfit a makeover with bold colored or embellished collars

6. Shift Blouses- This boxy silhouette is flattering to all body types and looks very sophisticated

7. Geometric Prints- Checkerboard and stripes are just a few prints giving items a mod vibe

8. Pleats- These pleats are no longer stiff and structured. You’ll see them in soft and flowy fabrics

9. Fringe- Inspired by Gatsby, fringe is not just for bohemian styles anymore

10. Florals- Bold and bright or dainty and soft, all floral prints give you a feminine look

Sorority Recruitment Outfits- ADPi May 19 2014, 0 Comments

This was our second year working with different sororities to help dress them for recruitment.  We had the pleasure of working with the sweetest girls of Alpha Delta Pi at East Carolina University for the first time this year.

This sorority works year round to support and raise money for the Ronald McDonald House. We are a huge of fan of this charity and organization so we were thrilled when the girls came to us to help them find an outfit to wear during their Philanthropy Day!

After tons of searching and talking with designers, we found the perfect top for them.  They wore ivory and pink tank tops with a bow across the chest.  With the tops, they all wore different colored skinnies and nude wedges. We love the way they styled them and think they looked so great together as group.

Check out the pictures below in their Philanthropy Day outfits!

How to Wear Stripes May 15 2014, 0 Comments

A popular trend found across all runway shows for Spring 2014 was stripes.  All types and styles of stripes were shown: skinny, bold, uneven, and head to toe.

Styling and wearing stripes can be intimidating. No one wants to look larger than they are or cartoonish. However, stripes can be very chic when worn the right way. Below are a few tips on how every girl can pull off stripes.

1. Vertical Stripes: Girls who are short or who want to make a certain area look smaller, should wear vertical stripes. These create a lengthening illusion. The long stripes cause the eyes to look upward and make your body appear long and lean.

2. Horizontal Stripes: Girls who are petite or wish to make a certain area look bigger, such as your bust, should wear horizontal stripes.  These stripes draw attention to the area and accentuate your curves.

3. Mixing Stripes: This is a tougher look to pull off, but it can be done the right way. Try finding a similarity in your two pieces to pull the look together.  Find two pieces that have similar colors, angles, or stripe widths.

Here at Truly Yours, we are falling in love with the stripe craze! Two of our newest arrivals are striped and gorgeous!

Our On The Veranda Dress has bold black and white stripes from head to toe and our Live For The Applause Dress has a mixture of striped detailing on the bust.

OOTD- Pretty in Pink May 15 2014, 0 Comments

This week, the warm weather has FINALLY started! Warm weather means time to bring out the bright colors and this outfit is perfect for that. This print and bold, pink neon shorts are sure to make you feel like it’s spring!

To Dye For- Chevron Maxi Dress May 15 2014, 0 Comments

We cannot believe April is already here and Easter is right around the corner! Whether going to an early morning church service, eating lunch with your family, or participating in fun Easter activities, we have the right dress for the occasion. One of our favorite maxis, The Egg Hunt Dress is perfect for the holiday! It has a beautiful combination of pastel colors and looks great paired with our light purple statement necklace.

OOTD- Striped Maxi Skirt May 15 2014, 0 Comments

Two of our favorite things this season have been bold stripes and maxi skirts. We were instantly in love when we found our Seeing Stripes Skirt and we couldn’t wait to style it in today’s post!

This maxi skirt has black and white stripes, making it so versatile and allows you to pair it with almost any solid color top.  We paired it with our pink Tank You Very Much top.  We tucked it in to the skirt so we could show off the fold over waistband.  This fold over waistband is adjustable so it makes the skirt wearable for all-tall or short. Another reason we’re obsessed with this skirt is because it is so comfortable! It is a light weight cotton making it cool and easy to wear during hot Spring and Summer days!

Along with our Seeing Stripes Maxi Skirt and Tank You Very Much Top we paired our Accordian To You Necklace.  Because the skirt is so bold, we didn’t want to draw much attention away from it.  This necklace is simple, but also hits at the perfect spot with this tank to give you some coverage across your chest.

Added bonus…this outfit is so affordable! This entire outfit can be purchased for $78!

OOTD- Crochet Coverup May 15 2014, 0 Comments

As you can see from our latest look book, we are loving the bohemian chic vibe this season.  One of our favorite bohemian pieces we have right now is our Day Dreamer top.

The great thing about this top is it can be worn so many different ways.  In our look book, we styled it with cuffed jean shorts and a bandeau top underneath. Fringe is a staple for any bohemian piece, and we love the fringe edging on this top!

We also think it would work great as a swimsuit coverup. This top is crocheted, so the open weave works well to let the warm summer breeze come through.  The length is perfect to cover you, but it is loose fitting so it won’t cling to a wet swimsuit.
Our Day Dreamer Top makes a great addition to your wardrobe. Being able to wear this top two different ways makes it even more affordable! Get this top/coverup for only $42!

OOTD- Nautical Striped Shorts May 15 2014, 0 Comments

With the official first day of Summer quickly approaching, we are getting very excited about all things nautical.

Stripes are key to any nautical look and last week the cutest navy and white striped shorts arrived from Ya Los Angeles. Not only are our Feeling Nauti Shorts striped, they are high waisted too! Because they are high waisted we chose a solid top to tuck into them.  Our Mint Julep Top worked great with them because it is a simple top with an interesting neckline to add a little detail. Also, we are loving this color combination! Navy stripes and mint just scream summer.

To go along with our nautical theme, we added one of our favorite Kris Nations necklaces, the silver anchor.  It falls at the perfect length, right between the cutout in the neckline.  As you know, all of our Kris Nations necklaces come in a bottle with a meaning behind the charm.  The anchor means safe, grounded, and reliable.

Get ready for summer with these three pieces! You can get the whole look for under $100!

The Right Skirt For Your Body May 14 2014, 0 Comments

Skirts are a staple part of any girl’s wardrobe. However, sometimes it is hard to determine exactly which style of skirt is most flattering to your body type. While these skirts are not specific to just one body type, they do accentuate various types in different ways. The good thing is, we have skirts of all styles, perfect for every body type!

Maxi Skirts

The maxi skirt works for a majority of body types.  Many people believe these can only be worn by tall, slender bodies.  However, small petite frames can wear slim silhouetted maxi skirts to help create the illusion of longer legs.  Fuller silhouetted maxi skirts can also work on hour glass or apple shaped bodies. The fuller maxi skirts help to create a balance between your top and bottom.

Mini Skirts

Mini skirts can be tricky to wear depending on your silhouette.  Mini skirts come in various lengths and you want to make sure you cater to your body.  It is important that the hem of the skirt hits at the most slender part of your thigh to create a thinner appearance.  If you are pear shaped, you may want to avoid this style since it will draw attention to your larger bottom.  Apple, tall, and petite body styles are most ideal for the mini.

High Waisted Skirts

High waisted skirts hit right at your natural waistline.  Having the band at your waistline helps to create the illusion of a small torso.  These skirts look best paired with a tucked in shirt to show off your mid section.  High waisted skirts work well for full figured, pear, and hourglass shapes.  Tall slender figures may want to avoid these styles as it may draw attention to your straight body.

So no matter your shape, petite, hourglass, tall, or even pear, Truly Yours has options for you! Round out your spring wardrobe with your favorite length skirt today!
